Some popular technology services like Yahoo! And Google introduced their own gadget engines shortly after Microsoft released its own through Windows Vista. Although not as commonly used anymore, these can still serve a good cause. For instance, Lazy Launcher helps start any program or file from a specified location.
This gadget in particular is specially designed for Yahoo! Widget Engine which needs to be installed on the target PC to benefit from the full set of features. Just like any other gadget, it can be dragged across the desktop, forced to stay on top of everything else, ignore mouse, or opacity level set between 20% and 100%.
On the other hand, Lazy Launcher comes with its own set of options for both appearance and behavior. There are several themes to choose from, with the possibility to have icons shown in the launch menu, and size specified in pixels, which can also be adjusted by dragging the window borders around.
There’s no directory loaded by default, and these need to be configured, with up to four independent location. Each comes with a filter field to write down all extensions to include, otherwise all of them are displayed. It only requires the press of a button to launch a file this way, and the launch panel can be brought up through a configurable hotkey command.
