Were you ever in the middle of doing something important on your computer, when it suddenly restarted because of an automatic update? No matter how polite Windows tries to be, sooner or later it can still pull the rug from under your feet.

Luckily, there are ways to prevent such rude interruptions during your session. One of them is a program called LeoMoon SessionGuard.

The first thing you may notice about LeoMoon SessionGuard is that it’s a very lightweight application. It’s also portable, which means it doesn’t require any installation, and you can easily move it on any computer you want and just run it.

The program is also very unobtrusive and will remain hidden in the system tray; it doesn’t feature a proper interface, just a context menu with all its functions, which, as you’d expect, aren’t that many. You can check or uncheck the “Guard My Session!” option (which basically enables the program and can also be activated through the Ctrl + Shift + Q shortcut) and you can also choose to run the program during startup.

According to the developer, the program will register a reason to activate the ShutdownBlockReasonCreate function (which can be used to block system shutdowns) and object to WM_QUERYENDSESSION messages (which are sent by applications call for a system shutdown). This doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to restart your computer anymore, just that it won’t allow other applications to do that.

It can also prevent your computer from going into sleep mode or block screensavers and screen timeouts. The latter are sometimes enforced through company policies and they can be really frustrating and counterproductive. So if you wish to bypass these policies and restore your workflow, this program could be an ideal solution, because it doesn’t actually modify any settings on your computer. Considering that it’s such a light and unobtrusive app, one might even consider LeoMoon SessionGuard as a great office tool.
