There is a large market for older games or titles that were only released on platforms that are no longer available. To run them on a modern Mac, you can use various emulators designed for specific platforms.
Ludo is unlike a classic emulator in that it doesn't emulate the actual console. Instead, it is designed to load emulator plugins called libretro cores. These are available for a wide range of devices and contain only the code required to run the console, without a user interface.
Ludo is a smaller, more user-friendly alternative to RetroArch. It offers fewer features and supports fewer cores, which are also selected for the user automatically. They are included with the frontend, the intention being to simplify the user experience as much as possible.
The user interface is designed with controllers in mind, and the app supports quite a few: Sony DualShock 3 and 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and 8BitDO NES30 Pro. Note that all these devices need to be wired.
To get started, you can scan your drives for supported games, and there are few options you can configure from the app's settings if you are so inclined. The UI design is meant to minimize distractions and provide you only with the most essential features.
