M3U2MP3 is a handy tool for anyone who loves streaming music. It works with M3U files, which are just simple text files that help you stream MP3s from sites like CD Baby and Magnatune. But what if you want to keep those MP3 files instead of just streaming them? That's where M3U2MP3 comes in!
This program runs smoothly on Mac OS X. You can easily drag one or more M3U files into it, and it will grab all the MP3s listed in those files for you.
If you want to make things even easier, use Finder’s Get Info feature to link your M3U files with this app. After that, whenever you double-click on an M3U file, it’ll automatically open with M3U2MP3, downloading the MP3s right away!
If you're curious about how it works or want to tweak things a bit, you can edit the Perl script inside the app. Just go into the app's package contents and look for Contents/Resources/script.
You can also run M3U2MP3 using the command line on any platform! Just make sure you've got Perl installed along with a downloader like wget or curl. By default, it uses wget, but if you prefer curl, just change the $DOWNLOADER variable in the script.
The command-line version allows you to input M3U file names as arguments directly.
If you're worried about messing with the Registry when installing this tool, don't be! The DropHandler registry script is straightforward and won't interfere with your existing .pl file associations.
The Mac version was created using Platypus. And by the way, its cool icon comes from mattahan's Umicons volumes 1 through 4 (with permission!). So not only does it work great, but it looks good too!
