Macbeth FOR MAC

Macbeth is a desktop client for the Free Internet Chess Server (FICS) that is maintained by volunteers and can be used to play chess games with people from all over the world. You can login using your account credentials or opt to access the server as a guest.

Worth mentioning is that you get to register for a FICS account free of charge, in which case you can set a custom username, have a rating, save and analyze your games between sessions, receive annotations from other players, and even be able to join tournaments.

All this is not possible if you log into FICS with a guest account, but you are still able to view the currently available games, the active players, and so on. You can even join or create new chess games and play against other real players.

Within the Macbeth main window, you get to see details about the current server activity, choose to observe other players, and even analyze their past activity. You can also create new games and be paired with other players automatically.

Macbeth provides support for different FICS supported chess variations, such as Suicide, Losers, Atomic, Wild, or Crazyhouse. You can also set a time limit, choose the color you want to play with, and set rating parameters for the opponent.

Macbeth offers you the possibility to connect to your FICS account and play chess from the comfort of your desktop without cluttering your browser. The utility will automatically save your performance so you can analyze the games at a later time.

Keep in mind that Macbeth does not implement all the server’s capabilities, such as the possibility to chat with other players, but the project is still under active development.
