Mail Receipt is a free macOS tool that makes it super easy to get read receipts and delivery notifications for emails you send using Apple's Mail app. If you've ever wanted to know if someone opened your email, this is the perfect solution!
The Mail Receipt utility lets you set up your Mail app to automatically add BCC (Blind Carbon Copies) to all of your emails. This means you can keep certain people in the loop without them knowing who else is getting the same message!
This tool works by adding three extra headers to your emails: Disposition-Notification-To, Bcc, and Return-Receipt-To. These headers help ensure that you get the information you want about your sent messages.
The user interface is minimalist and streamlined. You can quickly toggle on or off the necessary headers just by checking a box next to each option. Once you've ticked what you need, hit the "Apply" button at the bottom right corner of the window.
Keep in mind that you'll need to quit Mail.app if you want these new headers added and start receiving read receipts and delivery notifications.
Even though you're enabling read receipts for your emails, there's no guarantee that recipients will accept or confirm they've read your message. Most email servers will follow through with Return-Receipt-To headers, letting you know when your email lands in their inbox, but it won't tell you if they opened it.
If later on, you decide that read receipts or BCCs are not for you anymore, it's a breeze to disable them! Just clear out the relevant fields in the Mail Receipt app, click Apply again, and restart Mail.app.
In short, Mail Receipt is an awesome addition to your Mac if you're looking for an easy way to track read receipts and delivery notifications since Apple's Mail app doesn’t have built-in options for custom headers.
