Anime and manga are pretty cool, I think. If you’re in need of some quality entertainment, I personally think that either of those should satisfy even the most discerning individuals, but enough about that. You want to read some manga, or watch some anime — where do you go?
Most of us already know of the countless anime streaming and manga reading websites out there, but what of dedicated apps? If you’re on the lookout for one, Mangayomi is a free-to-use, open-source app that offers both manga reading and anime streaming under one interface.
To cut straight to the chase, the program aims to be a reliable, and arguably more convenient, alternative to using your browser to search for manga and anime. Using it is simple enough that anyone should get the hang of it without much effort, and I had a generally positive experience overall.
When first starting out, go to the Browse tab and select some manga and anime extensions. Some are different than others, so look around and see what’s best for you. After that, you can start looking up your favorite titles, which you can then add to your library if you want to get to them easier.
Depending on the extension, some entries will feature a full description, along with their respective episode titles. What’s more, some sources even offer dubbed anime. As for the manga reading experience, it was good enough for me. You can customize the reading mode and scale, as well as change the background color.
If you happen to have an AniList or MyAnimeList account, then you should know that the app can automatically update your profile with your manga and anime progress. Go to the Settings and head into the Tracking menu to connect your account.
There’s also the possibility to download anime and manga, but that didn’t quite work for me. I tried clicking on the Download button on some manga chapters and anime episodes, and nothing came of it. I also wasn't able to organize my entries by categorizing them.
Mangayomi works well, despite a few hiccups. They weren’t too major, and I don’t really think most users will be bothered by them anyway.
