Description

metaf2xml

metaf2xml is a free and open-source tool that works on multiple platforms. It's great for decoding and parsing aerodrome forecasts (TAF), routine weather reports (like METAR and SPECI), buoy observations, and synoptic data (SYNOP). So if you're into weather data, this software could be super helpful!

Easy to Use for Weather Data

This software handles all parts of the messages really well. It can correct or tolerate some common format errors, which is pretty neat! Plus, it automatically writes the extracted data into XML format or sends it off to a function you define. And guess what? It’s all done using Perl!

Convert Your Data Easily

One cool feature of metaf2xml is that it provides XSLT style sheets. These sheets can convert XML to text or HTML with different formats. There's also a handy web-based user interface that lets you check out and download up-to-date weather data from sources like Ogimet and NOAA.

No Installation Needed!

You won't need to go through a long installation process either! Just download metaf2xml, save it in your Home folder, and unzip it with your favorite archive manager. Since it's a command-line tool, you'll interact with it using a terminal emulator app. Don’t forget to check out the README file in the source package for more details on how to get started!

Multi-Platform Support

This software was built from the ground up to work on many systems! You can use it on any GNU/Linux distribution, BSD, Solaris, Mac OS X, and even Microsoft Windows. So no matter what computer you're using, chances are metaf2xml will work just fine.

A Look Under the Hood

If you're curious about how metaf2xml works behind the scenes, it's written in Perl but doesn't depend on specific hardware. That means you can run it on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines without any hassle. It also uses XSL programming languages like XPath/XSL-FO/XSLT.
