What is MidiKeys FOR MAC?

MidiKeys

MidiKeys is a cool little tool that brings a keyboard right up on your screen. You can use your computer keyboard to play MIDI notes, which is super handy if you don't have a MIDI controller nearby!

How MidiKeys Works

So, here's how it goes: the keys above the main row are the flats (you know, those black keys), and if you look at the row starting with 'q', that's where you'll find the octave below. Also, if you check out the digit row, those are the flats for that octave.

Selecting MIDI Sources

You can easily pick a MIDI source and watch as the incoming notes light up on your virtual keyboard. If you're more of a clicker than a typer, no worries! You can just click on the keys with your mouse too.

Playing Notes with MidiKeys

The keys from 'z' to ',' correspond to an octave starting at middle C (that's note 60). Keep in mind that in order to actually hear any sound when you press those keys, you need to connect MidiKeys output to some kind of synthesizer. This could be a software synth like SimpleSynth or even a hardware synth hooked up through a MIDI I/O box. Just remember, MidiKeys by itself doesn't produce sound.

MidiKeys Collections

If you're looking for more ways to use MidiKeys, it's included in some great download collections like MIDI Player and Open MIDI. So check those out!
