A computer can now help you prepare projects before they can come to life, and even taken through simulations. This can mean complex things like construction, but also hobbies, which might include airplane models. In this regard, Model Airplane Color Design helps you build your own designs, and fly them in a virtual environment.
The application tries to keep things simple, and it manages to do so through its step-by-step model design operation. You’re directly taken inside the creation menu, with dedicated elements on the side, as well as the menu bar to quickly jump to specific sections or various functions.
You first need to start from a base model, with a decent variety of preset model airplanes at your disposal like RC Biplane, Bonanza, Trainer, Racer, and more. Don’t worry, you’re not limited to the start designs, and you’re able to obtain a completely custom model airplane in the end by customizing nearly all of its elements.
There’s quite the variety of customization options, with three major regions, namely fuselage, wing, and horizontal stab. You can change these parts with others from built-in models to create unique designs. Each section can be adjusted in size and position on the plane. You can rotate the model with the mouse to get a better view, and it also gets automatically positioned when modifying elements in specific modes.
Along the way you also encounter a grid design to get an idea of its overall size. The grid section also lets you tweak elements. Before flying your model, you go through the paint booth, letting you pick colors from the default palette and paint entire sections. Sadly, there are no stickers to add, or brushes for custom designs.
Once your model is ready, you can take it for a spin. Although the simulation environment isn’t really modern, it is rather fun to control the plane with your mouse in a 3D environment. It’s also possible to enable a 2 plane view so you also fly the original model alongside yours.
To sum it up, Model Airplane Color Design isn’t really your choice to prepare for building a real life model, but it can provide an idea of how difficult the task can be. Customization options give you the possibility to change elements, resize and position them, and apply custom paint coats. Take it for a test run in the end, and it’s sure to convince you to create an entire fleet of custom models.
