Coming from a time where playing a game didn’t translate in sitting in front of a television or a computer, Monopoly is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, board games in the world that combines luck with strategy.

Played with the right people and in right times, Monopoly can be a lot of fun, as it forces everyone to develop a strategy of some sorts, with the ultimate goal of bankrupting the other players involved. Except the inevitable and well known reasons for quarrel, the game has only one disadvantage: it can take forever to end.

Monopolist is a modern interpretation of the classic Monopoly game, that aims to keep the same rules and principles as the original game, but with a more realistic playing field and a faster and more exciting gaming style.

In plain words, Monopolist enables you to play Monopoly on your Mac, but without having to spend half of your life doing it. As expected, not much has changed in terms of rules: you still have to buy, rent or sell your properties and you still have to be the only player that hasn’t lost all its properties and avoided bankruptcy in order to win.

The best thing about this game, besides the fact that you have a more clear idea of what is going on due to its interactive virtual world and the upgradable buildings, is the fact that almost every element of its interface is throughly explained by clicking the question mark button from the game window’s upper right corner.

Another worth-mentioning feature is the fact that Monopolist comes with 26 model of buildings that each have over 24 options for improvement, as well as with several difficulty settings for the NPCs.

While Monopolist is a lot of fun, it is hard to believe that it could ever take the pace of the original game it is based on. However, the game does come with a few improved aspects over the original game and has a lot of things going for it, especially the fact that an entire game can be played in less than an hour.
