Multiplayer Gin Rummy is a super fun card game that you can play with just two players. Here's how it works: at the start of each game, both players get dealt 10 cards. Then, one card is placed face up to kick off the discard pile, while the rest of the cards go face down to form the stock pile.
The first player picks a card from either the discard pile or the stock pile. After choosing a card, they need to discard one from their hand onto the discard pile. Then it's the next player's turn, and this continues back and forth.
Now let’s talk about melds and deadwood! Melds are when you have three or four cards of the same rank or three or more cards in a row of the same suit. Just remember, one card can’t be part of two melds at once!
The other cards left in your hand are called deadwood cards. Each deadwood card has points: Aces are worth 1 point, numbered cards carry their face value, and Jacks, Queens, and Kings are all worth 10 points. The goal here is to keep your deadwood points as low as possible!
If you manage to get your deadwood points down to 10 or less after discarding a card, you can knock! This gives your opponent a chance to lay off any of their deadwood if they can combine them with your melds.
When it comes time for scoring: if your deadwood points are lower than your opponent’s after knocking, you score based on the point difference between both hands. But if they're higher than yours, they get 25 points plus whatever difference there is!
