Description

NetLogo

NetLogo is a super cool application that lets you simulate all kinds of social and natural events. It’s great for tackling those complex situations that change over time, helping you study social behavior and find patterns.

Diverse Model Library

This app comes packed with a rich model library. You can dive right in and start creating your own simulations. The samples cover a ton of fields like art, biology, chemistry, physics, Earth science, math, and even social sciences! Plus, there are special models developed by The Center for Connected Learning and Computer-Based Modeling.

Adjustable Variables

When you load or create a model in NetLogo, it simulates situations based on one or more variables that you can tweak to see different outcomes. For example, if you're looking at climate change, you'd adjust things like sunlight brightness, cloud cover, CO2 levels, or the albedo (that’s just a fancy word for how much light is reflected).

Create Your Environment

You’ve got tons of tools to build your new environment! You can use buttons, sliders, switches, input boxes – the works! There are even monitoring panes and plots to help visualize everything. Plus, you can jot down notes about your model to explain how it works and what changes users should look out for.

User-Friendly Coding

While most of your work involves graphical elements in NetLogo, it also generates the source code behind the scenes automatically. It uses a version of the Logo programming language that's been tweaked to work with both mobile and stationary agents called turtles and patches. Don’t worry; its syntax isn’t too tricky! It just takes a bit to get used to all the functions.

Simulate Various Phenomena

NetLogo is versatile enough to run simulations on various phenomena. It even offers 3D modeling tools and multiple ways to visualize your models! You can export your generated models locally or turn them into movies or applets for educational purposes. Developers can also integrate NetLogo into their projects using its integrated API!
