NetSurf is a straightforward, open-source web browser that comes with its own rendering engine. It’s made to be a lightweight option compared to more complicated browsers out there.
So, here’s the deal: the OS X version of NetSurf is still in the early development phase. Right now, it only has basic features and doesn’t support many common web standards. This can make browsing a bit tricky.
If you think minimalistic design is an understatement, you’d be spot on! Besides the main browser window, you’ll see just a few other elements like the URL bar and Back/Forward buttons. You can even remove some of these if you want! Plus, there are different icon styles you can choose from.
A cool feature of NetSurf is how it lets you check your browsing history for each tab in a neat diagram form. This makes it super easy to find your way back to various pages without getting lost!
On the downside, because CSS, HTML, and JavaScript aren’t fully developed yet, many web pages might not show up correctly. This really limits where you can browse since navigating certain websites could become nearly impossible.
The features available in this version just aren’t enough right now; some might even work incorrectly! For example, you can't add or manage bookmarks at all, and clearing your browsing history isn’t an option either.
The app also lacks a decent download manager and doesn't support search engine integration or extensions. You won’t even be able to view a page’s source code properly despite seeing it in the right-click menu!
If you try setting a website as your homepage, it may crash on you. And forget about recovering your last session—it’s just not possible yet.
You also can’t customize security settings or any advanced options; all you get are some basic display settings for confirmation dialogs when doing certain actions.
NetSurf has the potential to become a powerful web browser down the line. But as of now, I can't really recommend it due to missing features and bugs that limit its usability. If you're interested in checking out more about NetSurf here!
