NorthBright CHM Tool

NorthBright CHM Tool is a straightforward piece of software designed to decompile Microsoft HTML files (CHM format). It supports large-sized CHM files (over 50MB) and can also extract specific pages to file.

After a fast setup procedure that shouldn't give you any trouble, you're welcomed by a user-friendly interface made from a normal window with a classical-looking structure.

Once you've indicated a CHM file, you can specify the output directory for storing all decompiled files, as well as click a button to start the task. This doesn't take long and it can be canceled if you change your mind.

Another possibility is to open a CHM file and switch to NorthBright CHM Tool. It automatically identifies the current page title and URL, enabling you to extract the current page and save it to any location on the disk as an HTML (complete webpage or HTML only), MHT (web archive), or plain text document.

The tool auto-checks for updates by default, and this option can be disabled. Apart from the fact that you can switch to another UI language, there are no other notable settings available.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't hog system resources in our evaluation, since it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. It saved files rapidly, without causing the operating system to hang, crash or prompt error dialogs in the meantime.

Although it doesn't come loaded with richer options and configuration properties, NorthBright CHM Tool offers a simple and effective solution for decompiling CHM files as well as for extracting specific pages with minimum effort. Thanks to its intuitive interface and options, it can be figured out with ease even by PC users with no experience in CHM decompilers.
