Whether you are trying to digitize old documents and books or you are just working with scanned documents on a daily basis, sometimes some of the papers are not very well  scanned. Due to this, your default text recognition tool may not be able to provide the full content or any text at all.

OCRImageOptimizer is a command line tool that enables you to improve the quality of the badly scanned documents so that they are easier to read by the default OCR text recognition tool you are currently using. The tool simply improves the quality of the images, but you still need to have a dedicated OCR tool.

Before you can use the tool, you need to make sure that you have some other programs needed, as otherwise the program won’t work properly. To get started, you can simply type the following command OCRImageOptimizerApp.exe -i <INPUT_IMAGE> -o <OUTPUT_IMAGE> and that’s it. As you probably hinted, the tool deals with items at a time and it would be nice if it included a batch feature.

As far as its capabilities go, the utility has the role of removing shadows from scans, reduces blur and can crop off areas that are not part of the original paper. At the same time, it comes with automatic image rotation and binarization for black and white documents.
