Open Crypt

Open Crypt consists of a suite of components designed to hash, encrypt and decrypt individual files, as well as the files inside a folder with the utmost ease.

Open Crypt steps in with a very simple design, but despite lacking eye candying elements, is intuitive nonetheless. The main interface sports shortcuts to the three modules embedded inside it: hash, encryption and decryption.

It’s important to specify that all of the modules are able to perform the operations on individual files, but processing an entire directory is also a possibility.

As far as the hasher is concerned, this utility sports support for a very wide array of hash types, including MD5, SHA1, SHA128, SHA256 and SHA512. The generated hashes will be automatically exported to a location of your choice inside a CSV file.

The encryptor will cipher files using the AES model, with a user-defined encryption key. This key needs to be type twice inside the main GUI, as a reassurance that you haven’t inputted it wrong the first time (then, you won’t be able to decrypt that data without the correct encryption key).

The decryption process can be performed on files encrypted previously with Open Crypt and will be carried out successfully only if provided with the key that was originally used to cipher the data.

As a side note, if you’re going to process an entire folder of files, the operation is going to take some time, especially if the amount of data is considerable. However, individual files will be processed almost instantly.

Open Crypt is a multi-purpose application that delivers access to a few common security utilities that are to be found in most similar applications. However, a more attractive design, as well as a better processing speed could place it on a higher spot.
