OpenSAF is a cool open-source project that aims to create a solid middleware platform. This platform follows the guidelines set by the Service Availability Forum (SA Forum). A bunch of big names in Communications and Enterprise Computing came together to kick off the OpenSAF Foundation, which helps push this project forward and get the OpenSAF code into real-world products.
The journey for OpenSAF started back in mid-2007. Since then, a friendly group of supporters has been working hard on this initiative. The foundation was officially formed on January 22nd, 2008, with major players like Emerson Network Power, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, HP, and Sun Microsystems as founding members. They all wanted to help make OpenSAF a success!
If you're wondering about the legal stuff, OpenSAF is licensed under the LGPLv2.1 license. This means it’s free to use, modify, and distribute! So whether you’re looking to dive into development or just curious about middleware solutions, there's plenty of room for everyone.
