ORPALIS DICOM Viewer is a niche tool designed to showcase DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) files, or simply put, to open them. What is the niche, one might ask? The answer is medicine. X-ray images are a brute word to describe what the DCM format looks like, yet are the most accurate in nonmedical terms. Such files cannot be opened by what the OS has to offer in terms of tools, so having a DCM viewer is mandatory for anyone handling DICOM files within a professional or personal environment.

Loading up DICOM files is a walk in the park. The app lets you open a single file or a hefty directory. Because DCM files can have more than one image embedded, the program will order everything up, as with a presentation.

Use the preview area for showcase purposes. To animate a set of DMC, use the speed slider to instruct the app to view all images with a specific FPS. This allows one to create a video effect from the loaded images.

The metadata principle found in any media file fully applies to DICOMs as well. Instead of authors and bit rate, A DCM file holds information such as patient name, birthdate, blood type, and all kinds of medical details.

Another function worth mentioning is represented by the app's ability to take frame shots. Unlike taking a classic screenshot, a frame is captured and sent to the clipboard. One can then paste the frame to any tool capable of graphic rendering.

ORPALIS DICOM Viewer might be a professional tool, but it was designed to be as easy to use as possible. Radiologists, cardiologists, dentists, and even veterinarians have in their daily routine access to DICOM files, so the audience will mainly come from there. Apart from the professional help, the tool also caters to normal, everyday users whom their doctors share their medical data with.
