ownCloud is a cool data sync system that lets you transfer files between your devices using your own server or even a third-party host. The ownCloud app is what you'll use on the client side to make all this happen.
Before jumping in, you need access to an ownCloud server. This can be set up on your own computer or through shared hosting. Just a heads-up: the ownCloud server works only on Windows or Linux operating systems.
Once you're connected to your server, the ownCloud desktop application will start syncing data between your devices automatically. It’s pretty much hands-free after you tell it which folders to sync!
The utility hangs out in your status bar, so it’s easy to find. You can access settings and even launch the ownCloud webpage right from there.
If you're away from your desk, don’t worry! ownCloud has mobile apps for both iOS and Android. This means you can keep working on your projects wherever you are and have everything updated across all devices.
You don’t want syncing to slow down your work, right? No problem! In the Settings panel of ownCloud, you can easily set limits for download and upload speeds. You can also configure proxies if needed.
A big plus of using ownCloud is that you can turn your computers into servers for syncing without sharing data with third-party services. If that’s not for you, it also works with shared hosting!
If you're ready to get started with ownCloud, you'll love how simple it makes file management across all of your devices!
