Password managers make for a good way to add an extra layer of security to your accounts. Besides the obvious advantage that you can use more advanced passwords which you won't run the risk of forgetting, there's also the convenience factor — knowing where to find your login details is valuable in itself.

If you're new to using password managers, or are simply looking for something newly-released, passbox might be for you. It's a very simple password management utility where users can store their accounts in peace and come back to whenever they need their credentials.

At its core, the program is nothing more than a simple password manager — some users may even call it too simple. The bread and butter of tools like such is being able to add your usernames and passwords, perhaps provide a few details, and that's generally all there is to it.

As it is now, the program supports users adding their logins with very little headroom for anything else. Click the Add button — or use the Ctrl + D shortcut — and insert a username, password, and include a description if you're feeling up to it.

For added security, it's important for you to set a master password. Interestingly enough, the program doesn't try to get you to use one during the initial setup, so you'll have to go into the settings manually and click the Set Password button.

An alternative method of adding your accounts is importing them. The supported extensions are .JSON and .HTML, so it's likely that you won't have any problems with the importing process. If you wish to migrate to another app, or simply have a backup of sorts, you can choose to export your accounts, either as encrypted or plain data.

As it stands, passbox is a pretty minimal password manager. It doesn't have many features, but it functionally does what a password manager is supposed to do: store your account data in a safe environment. It's the first stable release, however, so it's likely that we'll see more features being added along the way.
