Given the plethora of applications that are working in the background and performing various tasks, keeping track of what is being modified, deleted or written can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Patriot NG is a small piece of software that enables you to monitor the critical events that occur within the network or your computer.
Following a quick and forthright setup, you can access the application from the System Tray by clicking the right mouse button. The application does not come with an interface per se, but rather includes a menu that provides you with various options, such as starting and stopping the program, checking out the status or updating the NIDS rules, just to name a few.
You can make the most of the program and make sure it does not disturb you with false alerts or events that do not interest you at the same time. You can configure the application and specify the types of events to keep an eye on by accessing the Control Panel.
The Control Panel section includes three categories of options, namely Explorer, Networking and System, each being representative of the type of changes you can set to monitor. You will be happy to learn that the program reports new hosts in the network, anomalous network traffic, new open ports, connections or new file shares on the computer via the Networking options.
The tool allows you to monitor the Startup directories known as the favorite places of Trojans, detects when new users are created in the system, hidden windows that pop up during program installation as well as new services that are being added to your system.
Last, but not least important, you can find out of changes that occur in registry keys as well as new configurations of Internet Explorer, a sign that you might be infected with spyware.
In the eventuality that you need to navigate to unknown websites that could contain malicious software and you would like to keep your computer free of viruses and other malware, then perhaps Patriot NG could come in handy.
