What is Perian FOR MAC?

Perian

Perian is a handy QuickTime component designed to boost the variety of video file formats that Apple’s QuickTime player can handle. If you love watching videos on your Mac, this tool is pretty cool!

Easy Installation Process

Getting started with Perian is super easy. It comes as a lightweight DMG disk image. Just mount it to access the prefPane and Read Me file. To kick off the installation, double-click on the Perian.prefPane icon. You’ll have the option to install it just for yourself or for everyone using your computer.

Powered by Great Libraries

What makes Perian so great? It uses several third-party libraries like libavcodec, libavformat, and Mozilla’s Universal Charset Detector. The Read Me file gives you all the juicy details about these libraries.

User-Friendly Controls

The Perian pref pane window is where you can check which version you’re using, look for updates, and customize audio settings. You can switch audio output from Stereo to Dolby Pro Logic or even Multi-Channel Output, depending on what suits your vibe!

Tweak Your Sound Experience

If you're into sound quality, Perian lets you play soft sounds at normal volume or crank them up louder. Plus, if you're picky about audio dynamics, there’s an option to adjust Dynamic Range Compression just how you like it.

Awesome Subtitle Support

This tool also ramps up subtitle support! You can load external subtitles like SRT or ASS files effortlessly. So no more missing out on those foreign films!

A Wide Range of Supported Formats

Thanks to Perian, you can enjoy a variety of video formats including AVI, MKV, DIVX, FLV, and more! The supported video types are extensive: H.264, MPEG1/2, and even some unique ones like DosBox Capture.

Your Audio Needs Covered

The audio support doesn’t stop either! It covers Windows Media Audio versions 1 and 2 among many others. So whether it's music or movies, Perian has got your back!

No Longer Supported but Still Usable

You can still download Perian here, but keep in mind that it’s not actively supported anymore. If you’re looking for alternatives that work well with Mac OS X, consider checking out VLC Media Player or MPlayer OSX.
