PlayVoIP is a cool web-based VoIP service that makes managing calls super easy! It comes packed with features like user management, statistical reports, and a registration system. And guess what? It's built on LAMP and Asterisk, which are pretty popular tech stacks.

What’s the Story Behind PlayVoIP?

This project was initially made for a simple and free Indonesian VoIP network called VoIP Rakyat. So, it's got some local roots!

System Requirements for PlayVoIP

If you're thinking about using PlayVoIP, here's what you need:

Minimum Required Hardware:

• A decent web server


• At least 10 MB of disk space for software and data

Minimum Required Software:

• *NIX based Operating System (Linux is your best bet)


• Apache as your web server


• MySQL database server version 4.0 or the latest stable release


• PHP version 4.3 or latest stable release with MySQL module enabled and CGI version


• An SMTP server to send emails


• Asterisk version 1.2.0 or later

What You Should Know as a Server Operator (or Developer)

If you’re planning to run this software, here are some skills you’ll want to have:

• You should know how to check if PHP has the MySQL module enabled (check with phpinfo)


• You should be able to create and drop MySQL databases without breaking a sweat.


• Know how to insert SQL statements into created databases.


• Understand why installing PlayVoIP as 'root' is important.


• If needed, know how to install PHP application packages without 'root' access.


• And hey, reading README files and INSTALL docs? Treat that like a fun challenge!
