How are scans so fast?

This application makes heavy use of threading. Because most of the operations performed are I/O bound a lot more threads can be used than the number of cores on a device. In fact, one of the most intensive parts of the application is updating the UI during scans. This has gone through many optimizations but still remains a bit of a hotspot.

Compatibility:

Port Authority is designed to work efficiently on lower-end or older devices. Users can adjust the settings to optimize performance based on the device's hardware.

Support and Troubleshooting:

• If experiencing crashes during large port scans, reduce the thread count in the settings to avoid memory exceptions.


• For warnings about attempting to send email, rest assured that the application does not actually send mail. This may trigger certain security software; adjustments can be made as needed.


• If hosts are not responding in LAN scans, adjusting the host scan timeout setting can improve accuracy, even though it may extend scan durations.
