Designed as the portable counterpart of Japplis Toolbox, this is a straightforward piece of software designed to help you extract lines from files using regular expressions.

It can also convert numbers into hexadecimal or binary, join lines, count words, and validate XML code, among other features dedicated to text manipulation.

Provided that you already have Java installed on your computer, you don't have to set up anything else. You can drop Japplis Toolbox's executable file anywhere on the disk and just click it to launch the app. Alternatively, it can be stored on a pen drive to directly run it on any computer with Java. Unlike most installers, it doesn't change the Windows registry configuration.

Made from a large window divided into several panes, the interface looks plain and easy to use. You can load text from file or type it in the dedicated box, as well as seamlessly encode or decode it in URL, Base64, hex, hexadecimal number, binary, quoted printable, soundex, refined soundex, metaphone, double metaphone, ROT13, ROT47, or Unicode. The translation is performed as soon as you select the encoding/decoding mode.

Lines can be sorted, reversed, shuffled, numbered, merged, or sorted by length. It's also possible to remove duplicate or empty lines, trim spaces, or extract words.

Japplis Toolbox has another option designed to help you change the structure of strings of characters using patterns (similar to renaming files based on rules). This can be done by adding a prefix or suffix, splitting, keeping or removing regular expressions, keeping or removing lines, or by turning dates to long characters (or vice versa).

You can ask the tool to count characters, words or lines, validate XML code, or to compute the MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA384 or SHA512 checksum. Plus, you can resort to a search function across multiple files at the same time.

We haven't encountered any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the program didn't hang, crash or display error messages. It had a good response time to commands and carried out tasks swiftly while remaining light on system resources.

Although it's not much to look at, Japplis Toolbox provides you with several practical utilities for performing operations on text, and it can be handled by anyone with ease.
