Portable Mnemosyne

Designed as the portable counterpart of Mnemosyne, this software application contains a user-friendly environment and options for helping you memorize question and answer pairs. It can be handled by all types of users, whether they have previous experience in such tools or not.

Since installation is not necessary, you can extract the program files to a custom location on the disk and just click the executable to run Mnemosyne. There is also the possibility to save it to a pen drive or other removable storage unit, in order to launch it on any PC effortlessly.

What's more, it does not modify Windows registry settings or create extra files on the disk without your permission, thus leaving no traces behind after removal.

The GUI is user-friendly, represented by a normal window with a clear-cut structure, where you can add cards by indicating the card type (front-to-back only, front-to-back and back-to-front, vocabulary).

For the first two types it is necessary to indicate the front and back text, along with the initial grade. If you choose the vocabulary mode instead, you can establish the foreign word or phrase, pronunciation, meaning and notes. In all cases you can also specify tags.

It is possible to insert images, music and movies, preview the cards, delete them or edit their properties, export the database and import it at a later time, synchronize information between two computers, and more. Advanced users may create scripts and add plugins to enhance Mnemosyne's functionality.

We have not come across any unpleasant surprises during our testing, as the software utility did not freeze, crash or pop up error messages. It has a very good response time and minimal impact on PC performance, thanks to the fact that it consumes low CPU and memory.

Taking everything into account, Mnemosyne proves to be a resourceful piece of software for helping users memorize pairs of questions and answers, and it is accompanied by rich features and customization preferences.
