Portable PortPeeker

This is the portable edition of PortPeeker - a straightforward piece of kit that you can use to listen  to ports, in order to record TCP, UDP or ICMP traffic. It mainly caters to advanced users, such as network administrators.

Since installation is not a requirement, you can simply extract the program files to any location on the hard disk and run the executable immediately.

It is also possible to move PortPeeker to a USB flash disk or similar removable device, in order to run it on any workstation with minimum effort.

What's important to take into account is that the Windows Registry does not get updated with new entries, and leftover files are not kept on the HDD after removing the app.

The interface of the application is pretty simple to work with, since the options are pretty intuitive. You can get started by setting up the PortPeeker configuration when it comes to the protocol (TCP or UDP), port number, interface, captures output location, and buffer size. Plus, you can view connection requests, along with connect, disconnect and error messages.

It is also possible to copy data as text or hexadecimal code. PortPeeker provides a search function when dealing with large amounts of data, and lets you use the WhoIs function, organize captures, as well as print information for further scrutiny.

We have noticed a minimal CPU and RAM consumption during PortPeeker's runtime, so it's safe to safe the program does not interfere with user activity. No error dialogs have been shown in our tests, and the app did not hang or crash. On the downside, PortPeeker has not been updated for a pretty long time.
