Whether or not you were born in the '90s, there's a big chance you got your hands on an old-school point-and-click masterpiece, such as Gabriel Knight, Beneath a Steel Sky or Broken Sword, and greater odds that those titles won't work on modern computers.

However, don't whine about it just yet, as there's a nice selection of tools that can help you relive those moments. Portable ScummVM is one of them.

As its name suggests, this app is the portable version of ScummVM, therefore you don't need to install it on your computer. Simply unpacking the archive it comes in and launching the executable should do the trick.

More so, it won't create additional files or folders on your computer, nor will it tamper with any of your Windows Registry entries. You can also run it from removable storage media, such as external HDDs or USB flash drives.

Portable ScummVM can help you run old-school point-and-click games on your computer, but only if you have the data files. This application only modifies the executable so that it's compatible with your system.

If you have a bunch of old games on CDs that you abandoned because they just wouldn't work, maybe it's time to blow the dust off of them and give them another chance. You just have to point the app to the folder where the data files are placed.

Although importing games into the application is quite simple, you can tamper with some of the parameters if you're the tinkerer type. Clicking the "Options..." or "Edit Game..." buttons lets you configure global or game-specific settings.

Among the options, you can find render mode, graphics mode, aspect ratio correction, music device, AdLib emulator, subtitle speed, text and speech, MIDI settings, paths and themes.

If you miss the "good ol' days" when point-and-click adventure games were very popular, you might want to give Portable ScummVM a try. Loading games is quite intuitive, configuring options can be done easily and the interface is simple enough for anyone to use.
