As the name clearly points out, the application skips you the whole effort of getting it installed, and instead allows you to carry it around on a thumb drive to check for changes on any computer you’re working on. What’s more, this keeps registry entries clean, since no changes need to be made to ensure functionality.

Right on start, a slim bar appears right above the taskbar, showing a few sample ticker symbols. Color differentiation makes it easy to tell whether a value is on the rise, or in downfall from the last check. Moreover, alerts can be set up for price rise, or drop below a certain value.

A few visual tweaks can be made as well. The appearance tab allows you to have text scroll on the bar, for a cool effect. It can be done in both directions, at custom speed. Font can be changed as well, and a transparency effect applied. Unfortunately, there’s no option to make it run with Windows, but you can bypass this by adding a shortcut to the system Startup folder.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Portable Shark Ticker is a handy little tool which can keep you updated with the latest price changes on the global stock market. Visual display is clean, and simple, while not interfering too much with other desktop elements, while related options can be tweaked to monitor symbols of interest.
