Description

Qcal

Qcal is a handy application made to help you calculate dose and time response curves in insecticide resistance bioassays. If you’re working with insects and need to figure out how effective your insecticides are, this tool is definitely worth checking out!

How Qcal Works

The cool thing about Qcal is that it uses a logistic regression model. Basically, it helps generate values for Lethal Dose / Knockdown Dose (LD/KD) or Lethal Time / Knockdown Time (LT/KT). You simply enter your bioassay data right into the Qcal user interface, and it does the heavy lifting for you.

Understanding Lethal and Knockdown Terms

You might wonder why both lethal and knockdown terms are used. Well, different mosquito species can react differently to various insecticides. Some may show knockdown from one active ingredient but be killed by another. Since Qcal doesn’t specify the active ingredient, this combined language helps keep things clear.

Standard Outputs of Qcal

When you run your analysis in Qcal, you’ll get standard outputs like values for LD50 / KD50 and LD90 / KD90 or LT50 / KT50 and LT90 / KT90. Plus, there’s an advanced option if you want to dig deeper and get other custom LD/KD or LT/KT percentages.

Visualizing Your Results

The results from your logistic regression model calculations are displayed in a graph. Below the graph, there’s a text box where you can find all sorts of statistical details about your model. This includes things like Estimate, Standard Error, z-value, p-value, and those crucial values for LD50 / KD50 along with confidence intervals.

Saving Your Data

If you want to keep your results handy, don’t worry! You can easily save your regression model outputs as an .XLS spreadsheet. This makes it super easy to share or analyze further later on.
