QMapShack is a super handy trip planner app for macOS. It lets you create routes or tracks for your adventures using custom maps. Plus, you can check out GPS data from your past trips, which is pretty neat!
The main window of QMapShack has four different modules that you can easily rearrange: maps, data, route, and digital elevation models. Most of the space on your screen is taken up by the active map, making it easy to focus on where you're going.
To kick things off, you'll want to open some map and GIS data files and pick which ones you want to use. And don’t worry if you're feeling lost; the documentation from the developers has got your back, even if it's not completely up to date.
QMapShack supports all kinds of map files! You can open Garmin vector maps, .jnx raster maps, or even TMS and WTMS online maps. The digital elevation models are separate from the map file too—so you can play around with slope coloring and hill shading.
You can search for specific locations right in QMapShack, thanks to Google search integration. You can also set waypoints, routes, areas, and tracks for your journey ahead!
The cool part? Each item you create is fully editable! Plus, you can calculate distances using either offline (Routino) or online (MapQuest) resources—whatever works best for you.
QMapShack allows you to import GPS data from Garmin or TwoNav devices. This means you can analyze your previous trips right in the app!
In short, QMapShack is perfect for visualizing different types of maps and planning trips by creating custom waypoints and routes. You can organize all your data into projects and keep track of everything you've done by importing GPS data when available. Ready to get started?
