The way Screen Shade operates is pretty straightforward. It puts a dark filter over everything on your screen. You can easily tweak this filter using a slider right from the status bar. Simple, right?

An awesome feature of Screen Shade is that it lets your dock and menu bar stay visible even when the screen is dimmed. This way, you can still keep an eye on everything without losing sight of those important parts of your screen.

Auto-Start at Login

You can set up Screen Shade to start automatically every time you log in. This means you won’t have to deal with that super bright display each time you turn on your Mac!

A Couple of Downsides

Now, there are a couple of things we noticed while testing Screen Shade. First off, it doesn’t have global hotkeys. This would make it way easier to turn off the dimming or adjust brightness quickly without going through the menu.

Also, if you’re using multiple monitors, there are some issues with support on macOS Mavericks that didn’t show up in earlier versions. That said, we didn’t encounter any bugs during our tests!
