Have you ever found yourself in desperate need to transfer some piece of text from a photo or image file? If you have, then you know how difficult it is to find an app that does exactly this and how expensive these programs can be. With this in mind, Search for text in pictures is an application that does this difficult task for free. It may not be as accurate or as precise as other alternatives, but it does the job quite right.
The interface is pretty simplistic. One has to first load a folder with the images or pictures that will have the text extracted from them. Afterward, the application will detect all pictures with text and will prompt you with a selection of images found in the folder you indicated. Next, you have to open the right picture from the given selection and press on the button labeled "OCR". Voilà, your image text is extracted and displayed at the bottom of the app window.
As far as responsiveness goes, the program works very fast. There is no lag and, more importantly, no errors or crashes. This means you will have a smooth experience with this application. The downside to it all is that the translation itself varies in quality. The smaller the sentences or texts, the better. For more complicated pieces of text, there are bound to be some problems, ranging from minor issues to somewhat important ones.
Search for text in pictures is an application that attempts to offer paid features at no cost. This means the quality and execution are not perfect. Despite this, the application retains as much functionality as possible and can still be of use for many tasks involving the transition of words from photos or images to virtual paper.
