SecureUxTheme

SecureUxTheme is an open-source application that allows you to change the appearance of the operating system by applying any of the themes available in Windows. While you can use it to get a new look and feel, keep in mind that the tool does not feature new themes itself, but it is designed for managing existing themes and removing the signature verification of styles in Windows.

The application features a list of themes that are already available in Windows. If you want to use it with custom themes or customize existing ones, note that the patcher must be installed. The status of the patcher is shown within the main window, and you can deploy it with the click of a button. Please keep in mind that a system restart is required for the changes to take effect and the tool must be launched with administrator rights.

There are a few customization settings that you can apply for the current theme to change the appearance of Windows to your liking. For instance, you can configure SecureUxTheme to ignore the desktop background, the mouse cursor, the desktop icons, colors, or sounds when applying a theme.

There are a few additional settings that might seem strange at first, but you can easily access the application’s Help to read about their functionality and how to use them to your advantage.

Hooking explorer allows you to use “Personalization” to configure a patched theme. However, please be advised that doing so on Windows 10 is pointless and, moreover, can cause instability and low system performance. Hooking the System Settings allows you to use “Themes” to set a patched theme in Windows.

Aside from theme patching, SecureUxTheme can also serve as a fixer for the LogonUI, addressing the situation when locking Windows results in some colors being reset, despite of the chosen style.

SecureUxTheme is an application that can deal with theme patching and customization, as well as removing signature verification of styles. While its purpose might not be so clear to some, others are surely to enjoy customizing their themes and exploring new ways to personalize Windows.
