What is Service Menu Editor FOR LINUX?

Service Menu Editor

Service Menu Editor allows you to customize right-click menus in Dolphin effortlessly. If you've ever wanted to modify the options that appear when you right-click on files, this tool is perfect for you. You can easily choose the mime types corresponding to different file types and add your menu options with ease by simply entering a name and the desired command.

Edit Right-Click Menus with Ease

The inspiration behind creating Service Menu Editor was the observation that many menus were not transitioned to KDE4. Instead of individually updating each menu, the idea of providing a simple application for everyone to edit menus emerged, and thus, Service Menu Editor was developed.

How to Create a New Menu Option

If you wish to create a new right-click option for compressing files using GZip, follow these steps:

  1. Start by launching servicemenueditor.py.

  2. Click on the Add button.

  3. Type in the name, such as "compress".

  4. In the subsequent dialog, select Application/octet-stream to work on all files.

  5. Enter "Compress Files" under Name, which will be visible in the Actions menu to users.

  6. Lastly, insert the required command, like "gzip %u", under Exec.

Now, whenever you right-click on a file, your new menu option will be ready for use!
