Everything which works on your computer is mostly based on a corresponding service, at least as far as Windows components go. Sure enough, these can be viewed and handled through the Task Manager, but you might want to work with a filtered list, or services on other devices, and Services Monitor is the type of app which lets you handle things this way.

Before you can even go through the setup process, it’s recommended to check whether or not your computer is fitted with .NET Framework. You might also want to run the application with administrator privileges, so that it’s capable of properly accessing and reading target services. When not directly in use, it can be minimized to the tray area.

Unlike the Windows Task Manager, the application doesn’t display a list of all services on launch. In fact, you need to create your own list of services to monitor. This can be done regardless of the state of the service you want. The list of items can be gathered from network computers as well, given you have the appropriate privileges.

As such, one of the first steps is to start adding services to the list. The status bar shows the total number of items, as well as those running and stopped. These details are also shown in the window next to each. You can keep track of services on different computers in the same program instance.

The application comes with functions to start and stop services, and settings are applied in real-time. You can create a list of favorite items, as well as a file with all items to load it easier later on. You gain quick access to the Windows Services mmc tool, as well as the Eventlog.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Services Monitor is a reliable application you can use on your computer and across a network. Things are easy to grasp, and you get to create your own list of services, just so you don’t feel overwhelmed by everything running on the target PC.
