Skipp OpenText

Skipp OpenText is a lightweight and portable text viewer and editor that puts basic configuration options at your disposal. It's dedicated to beginners as well as those looking for a straightforward way to take notes without worrying about complicated features.

Wrapped in a user-friendly interface made from a single window with a simple design and layout, Skipp OpenText gives you the possibility to create plain (.txt) and rich text documents (.rtf).

It's possible to change the font type, size and color, apply bold, italic, underline or strikethrough effects to selected text, align paragraph to left, right or center, as well as put together bullet lists. Don't forget to save text on exit, since the utility doesn't require confirmation to quit, nor does it autosave contents.

It's not packed in a setup kit, so you can save the program files to a custom directory on the disk or store them to a USB flash drive, in order to run the tool on any PC by just double-clicking its .exe.

It doesn't add new entries to your system registry, need libraries to work properly, or create files on the HDD without asking for permission. The source code is also available in the downloaded package and can be examined by programmers along casual users interested in coding.

We haven't come across any unpleasant surprises in our tests as far as OS compatibility with newer Windows is concerned, although it hasn't received updates for a long time. It remained stable throughout its runtime, without hanging, crashing or prompting error messages.

CPU and RAM usage was minimal, so it didn't hamper the overall performance of the machine. On the other hand, Skipp OpenText has a very light set of features, even for a basic text viewer and editor.
