Backup utilities are plentiful, but they tend to get very complex once you get to the paid tier. However, there's no reason why a simpler, free app can't do the job.
SmartBackup is one of those free options that is very capable. Its functionality may be limited, but it has everything you need to set up and run basic backup jobs effortlessly, including automation.
Setting up SmartBackup is a breeze. Start by adding a backup destination and then one or more sources. Each destination represents a separate backup job, allowing you to assign any number of sources to it.
Once your backup sources are defined, you can initiate the job. By default, content syncs, but you can also exclude subfolders from the destination or skip specific sources as needed.
If synced files need to be deleted or altered, the app can archive them to prevent data loss. You can also set the app to clear the archive folder after a specified number of days.
For a free and straightforward app, SmartBackup still offers automation. You can schedule each job to run daily, at a specific time, or on a particular day of the week. Additionally, adjust advanced settings like ignoring tag changes or setting the number of copy threads to be used.
While it may not be as feature-rich as some paid solutions, SmartBackup provides all the essentials for setting up simple backup jobs for personal use. Having automation included is especially advantageous as all tasks are done in the background.
