If you've been on social media (doesn't matter what platform or what channel) for a couple of years, then there's a good chance that you have some old posts that are no longer representative for the person you are now, or maybe there's simply not relevant for various reasons.
As we all know, going back into the past on our social media accounts can be a nice trip down memory lane, but it can also be a time-consuming and somewhat frustrating endeavor.
Well, here's an app that offers a somewhat-elegant solution for this particular issue. It's called Social Amnesia and, as its name states, it allows you to purge old tweets and comments/posts from Twitter, and Reddit accounts respectively.
The idea behind the app is definitely a good one, as we all know that on social media almost everything is logged and even ancient content can be accessed with a bit of work.
In its current iteration, Social Amnesia only works on Twitter and Reddit. Unfortunately, we don't know what the future will bring - if the developer has plans to add other popular social media platforms or not.
To start off with, it's worth noting that this is a utility designed with web technologies and it's Electron-based. This means that it's not the most lightweight app out there, however, on the upside, it does work on all major platforms out there - Windows, macOS, and Linux.
It's now time to talk about "the elephant in the room," the app's GUI. While clearly not the greatest GUI out there, it gets the job done. It's actually quite good that the app can be minimized to the Notification area (on the right side of the Taskbar).
The application lets you keep recent important content if you want to, and it can even be automated. However, please keep in mind that you'll have to be certain what exactly you want to delete. In short, if no settings are activated, the app will purge everything (all posts, all comments, everything) from your Twitter or Reddit accounts.
You can make sure that this does not happen by saving recent posts that are important, as well as by specifying exactly from what period you want the app to remove content.
Taking everything into account, Social Amnesia is by no means a perfect application. It still has a lot of room for improvements, both in terms of functionality (no feedback when the deletion process is completed) as well as its looks (the GUI in particular), but the bottom line is - if you want to purge old content from Twitter and Reddit, then this app probably offers the easiest way of doing so.
