Just because individuals are spending a lot of time in from of the computer, or with all attention focused on a mobile phone, doesn’t mean reading became obsolete. On the contrary, reading, and writing are now empowered by various tools like Sophie Author which allow the creation of books with multimedia content, and Sophie Reader does exactly what the name suggests.
First of all, the application is good to go from the moment download is done. This enables it to be carried around on a USB flash drive with ease, and used on other computers without system registry entries suffering any changes. However, you do need Java Runtime Environment to be able to run it.
The application is fitted with little to no editing options, since it’s core purpose is to read books created with Sophie Author, but this program is not a functionality requirement. Even though Sophie Author is capable of exporting to PDF, the reader only allows you to open files under formats like .books.s2, and .packs.s2, which are the native formats of Sophie projects. On the other hand, the reader is fitted with an option to export as PDF.
The visual design is similar to that of Sophie Author, but stripped of most editing functions. As such, you’re left with a large preview area for content, and a side panel to easily navigate through project pages. Zooming can be done up to 400 points, while pages can either be scrolled through using keyboard buttons, or the dedicated set of controls.
For more comfort, the application’s state can be changed to either a fullscreen, or presentation mode. Although there are no thorough editing options like the Author counterpart, elements can still be selected, with the possibility to copy them and paste in other, supported editors.
Bottom line is that books on a computer provide a lot more support, for a fully immersive experience in the target universe. With Sophie Reader you can easily open, and enjoy multimedia books created with Sophie Author. With a simple, intuitive environment, and different view modes, the application is sure to come in handy.
