What is SpeakerShare FOR MAC?

SpeakerShare

SpeakerShare is a cool, free Java app that lets you use the speakers connected to another computer on your network. So, if you ever wanted to play audio from your laptop but through someone else's speakers, this is your go-to tool!

How SpeakerShare Works

What makes SpeakerShare awesome is that it transfers audio in uncompressed PCM format. This means you get great sound quality! Plus, it uses only 172 kilobytes per second of bandwidth, which is pretty efficient.

Getting Started with SpeakerShare

If you're ready to dive in and start using SpeakerShare, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Install Soundflower: First things first, grab Soundflower. It’s a handy tool you'll need for audio routing.

  2. Set Default Output Device: Go to your System Preferences, find the Sound pane, and set “Soundflower (2ch)” as your default output device.

  3. Select Client Sound Mixer: Open up the preferences window of SpeakerShare, and choose “Soundflower (2ch)” as the client sound mixer.

  4. Mute Your Laptop Speakers: If you want to mute your laptop's speakers while using the remote speaker (which we recommend because of potential sound delays), open the Soundflowerbed application. Click its icon in the system tray and select NONE under the Soundflower (2ch) menu item.
