Speedtest is not something that usually gets people jumping up and down with excitement, right? I felt the same way at first. But trust me, it’s worth checking out!
I was a bit unsure about giving Speedtest a shot until I stumbled upon LibreSpeed. This cool open-source tool is super lightweight and made in JavaScript. It uses XMLHttpRequest and Web Workers to get the job done.
If you haven't guessed yet, this app is all about speed testing on Linux. It acts as a graphical user interface (GUI) for LibreSpeed, built with GTK4+/Libadwaita. So, what does that mean for you? Basically, it’s an easy-to-use app where you can check your upload and download speeds along with ping and jitter values.
The big draw of LibreSpeed is that it’s self-hosted and open-source for HTML5. Anyone can grab it to use in their projects or apps—whether it's desktop or mobile! Plus, it's super easy to set up.
This app supports PHP, Node, and multiple servers. The lightweight aspect comes from the fact that it doesn’t rely on Flash, Java, or WebSocket. That means quicker tests without all the extra baggage!
Even though this might not be your main concern with Speedtest, it works great with all modern browsers like Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and even Internet Explorer 11.
Speedtest really shows off what a good GUI app should be like. Despite its simplicity, it's gorgeous and user-friendly—definitely one of the best options for Linux users looking to test their internet speed!
