When dealing with music notation and its inherent characteristics, transferring such information from a digital to a printed medium can sometimes bring with it certain logistical challenges, due to the very specific parameters of such data. For instance, tablature notation, when sent to a printer, might be affected by structural changes to the pagination, and therefore result in the re-arrangement of data on different pages, which is unwanted and unusable when dealing with stand-held tablature.

Addressing such issues and much more, SPLITTAB was designed as an application that can provide users with a specialized solution for defining their preferred characteristics for the tablature data, in order to avoid printer errors and therefore achieve the required information structure.

The application’s main working principle relies on actually dragging the tablature text file directly on the command-line interface or its corresponding icon, which will then prompt a corresponding number of lines that can be efficiently set on the selected page.

However, users must be aware that the application will be looking for specific characters in the tablature file’s notation, therefore they need to insure that the added information respects both the right structure, as well as the commonly used syntax for musical tablature data.
