What is squint FOR LINUX?

Squint

Squint is a cool command-line tool that's totally free and open source! It’s written in C and is designed to help you duplicate your monitor's output into another X11 window. This is super handy if you want to show off a presentation on multiple screens without any hassle!

Show Your Stuff on Multiple Screens

With Squint, you can easily display demos on several monitors at once. The best part? You don't have to clone your whole screen! This means your laptop’s LCD stays clear, letting you keep working while the audience sees what they need.

Installing Squint on Linux

If you’re ready to get started with Squint, installing it on your GNU/Linux system is pretty straightforward. First, you'll need to grab the bz2 archive from Softpedia or the project’s official website. Just save it somewhere easy to find, then extract all those files.

Using the Terminal for Setup

Next, fire up your terminal emulator and navigate to where you saved those extracted files using the ‘cd’ command (like cd /home/softpedia/squint-0.7). After that, run the ‘./waf configure’ command to set everything up. If you're curious about optimization options, just type ‘./waf --help’!

Compiling and Installing Squint

When you're ready to compile Squint, simply run the ‘./waf’ command. To install it so everyone can use it on your Linux machine, run ‘./waf install’ as root.

The Techie Details Behind Squint

Diving a bit deeper into Squint, it's all written in C and needs GTK+ 3.0 or later along with Python 2 to function properly. You might also consider some extra libraries like libxdamage, libxext, libxi, libxrandr, libxfixes, libnotify, txt2tags, and gzip for an even smoother experience. Don’t worry—it works great on any Linux or UNIX-like system that supports both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures.
