What is Stimulator FOR LINUX?

Stimulator

Stimulator is a handy little tool that helps keep your computer awake. You know how annoying it can be when your computer just goes to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity? Yeah, we’ve all been there! Thankfully, most modern operating systems have quick fixes for this issue.

What is Stimulator?

If you’re using Ubuntu or any Debian/Ubuntu-based system, you might have heard of Caffeine. It’s pretty popular for keeping your screen on. But if you're looking for something that fits better with your GTK desktop apps, then Stimulator is worth checking out!

How Does It Work?

This simple GTK/Libadwaita app stops your desktop environment from going into Sleep or Hibernate mode. Instead of messing around with the top bar like Caffeine does, it offers a clean and straightforward GUI. You get two easy options: “Disable Automatic Suspending” and “Disable Screen Blanking.” That’s it!

A Little Techie Info

For those who love the techy side of things, Stimulator uses the Gtk.Application.inhibit. This basically tells the session manager to hold off on certain actions that would put your computer to sleep. However, do remember that while it uses org.freedesktop.portal.Inhibit, it's not foolproof across all platforms and desktop environments.

Final Thoughts

If you’re on GNOME (I tested it with GNOME 45.0), Stimulator can really cut down on those annoying sleep times when you’re not actively using your computer. Is it perfect? Maybe not; I still lean towards Caffeine for its top bar integration. But hey, at least Stimulator looks great and works well!
