String Transformer is an unassuming piece of software that offers a useful alternative to online conversion and hash generation tools. It is very easy to use and fully portable, but its UI is noticeably out-of-date.

Once you have downloaded the program, you only need to unpack the archive and run the executable file. An INI configuration file will be generated in the root folder, but no other data will be stored anywhere else on your PC.

The application is incredibly easy to deploy, and you can even place it on a portable storage device and use it on the go. What’s more, the window dimensions and last algorithm to be used will be remembered even after shutdown.

In order to process a text string, you need to enter it in the topmost field, select the conversion method and press the Transform button. The application enables you to convert content to Binary, Hex, Base64, Base85 and Base91, and the results can also be reverted to their original form.

String Transformer can be used to calculate hash values using the MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA384 and SHA512 algorithms.

When it comes to looks, the program could certainly use an upgrade. The GUI isn’t exactly impressive, so this may not be the best application for users who want everything to look nice and modern, although its layout is simple and intuitive.
