SurF File Manager is a simple-to-use file browser that comes loaded with a few practical options and configuration settings for casual users.

It doesn't require installation, so it can be saved anywhere on the disk or removable storage unit to directly launch SurF File Manager on any PC. It shouldn't make any changes to the Windows registry.

The tool's wrapped in a user-friendly interface that supports multiple tabs, enabling you to put together quick paths and shortcuts to network servers.

It's possible to launch programs in the DOS console and with command-line parameters, switch from file list view to time view (modification, access, creation), find out the largest folders along with their containing subfolders and files, as well as view large thumbnails.

By default, SurF File Manager monitors file changes and updates displayed content accordingly. However, you can disable this option or ask it to verify file changes in subdirectories.

You can copy or move items to another directory, paste shortcuts, NTFS or symbolic links, send items to the Recycle Bin or permanently remove them from the computer, as well as select all files from the list with the same name or extensions.

The application lets you examine NTFS properties, conduct file search operations across multiple directories and apply file name masks with filters (date and size range, attributes), create and manage favorites, set startup directories, modify the size of picture icons, customize file groups, and so on.

The utility worked smoothly in our tests, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on system resources consumption, running on low CPU and RAM.

On the other hand, it hasn't been updated for a long time, which can be clearly noticed after taking one look at its interface. Nevertheless, you can test SurF File Manager for yourself if you're looking for an alternative file explorer.
