SW Weather is a Java-based software application that facilitates a quick method for monitoring weather conditions in any geographical location, by simply entering a zip code. It contains just a few options which are intuitive enough to be figured out by all types of users.
This tool required Java to run. It's packed in a single executable Jar file that you can save in a custom location on the disk and double-click it to launch the program. It can also be saved to a removable storage unit to run it on any PC with Java. Unlike most installers, it doesn't make any changes to the Windows registry.
As far as the interface is concerned, SW Weather adopts a small window with a plain-looking structure. It's evident that the utility doesn't put emphasis on the graphical elements of the GUI, yet it's easy to navigate. It runs from the systray and gets minimized to the systray on close.
To get started, it's necessary to enter the zip code of a geographical location. This triggers the application to show the local time (in the 12-clock format), the current temperature (in Celsius), as well as the one of the following night and day. This information can be refreshed.
The program didn't put a strain on the system's performance in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't hang or crash.
On the other hand, SW Weather hasn't been updated for a long and it's likely to experience compatibility issues with newer Windows editions. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free to use.
