Swamp People is a challenging hunting and racing game based on the TV series that follows the life of various Cajuns that live in the dangerous swamps of the Atchafalaya River Basin and hunt large American alligators.

Swamp People is distributed via a small 125 MB DMG disk image that you have to download and mount in order to install the game. The installation process takes only a couple of minutes and will require almost 230 MB of your Mac’s hard disk space.

In Swamp People you have to search for alligators through a wide variety of swamps, lay traps for gators and race against other AI players. Your main objective is to hunt the largest and the most dangerous alligators living in the swamps. You can hunt six different types of alligators, ranging in size and aggressiveness.

After setting up the camp in the heart of the swamp you have to prepare yourself for hunting and racing through the bayous. You also have to discover the best spots for setting traps and use the gained money to upgrade your boat, traps and weapons.

You can visit the shop and spend your money on new more effective traps, bigger and more powerful boats and on new weapons. If you complete certain missions and accomplish difficult objectives you can earn numerous special bonuses.

Swamp People allows you to compete against skilled AI swampers in over 10 different locales. You can also prove your racing skills by staying in the lead on 8 different race courses. By accessing the the Map menu you can view your location in the swamp along with other hunting and racing places.

Although the gameplay is smooth and engaging it might take a while to get used to the game controls and the way the camera moves around the boat.
